Seems kinda phallic to me.

A movie about killer donuts you wouldn’t think would be the best of ideas. And while you’d be right… it’s wildly better than a lot of other movies I’ve seen.

Johnny is a college student (?) and living at home with his mother to save money. He works a dead-end job at a donut shop with his lifelong best friend Michelle. Johnny’s Uncle Luther lives in their basement and seems to be a mad scientist trying to create… something. During Johnny’s shift one day he brings his tablet to work to have Michelle work on it. When his Uncle comes to collect the tablet, he gets into a fight with the owner, Cliff. During their scuffle whatever chemical/serum/virus the uncle was working on falls into the fryer and begins to contaminate all the donuts.

Later in the day a group of other college kids shows up and begins to sexually harass Michelle. Johnny jumps to help defend her and sent the punks out and a fight ensues. As a result of this fight, Michelle is fired for “insulting a customer” and Johnny protest quits with her. Cliff attempts to make up for their actions by giving the kids a box of donuts. Donuts now contaminated by whatever was spilled in the oil and thus have turned the donuts into… Killer Donuts.

This is an attempt to make a mostly original horror movie a comedy. For the most part, it succeeds, but only in so much as being something that I have not seen before. It is however full of predictable tropes stuffed inside of dough that really doesn’t have a lot of flavors, to begin with. It’s really hard to tell if they knew it was so bad and leaned into that, or if they thought they were being clever and just don’t get it. Again… it’s not the worst movie I have seen by a long shot, but it also isn’t good enough for me to wholeheartedly recommend you seek out and watch either. It does, however, have C. Thomas Howell in it, for what that’s worth.
