I swear to you, it's NOT what you might think.
I swear to you, it's NOT what you might think.

I have seen literally thousands of movies, horror movies specifically, and this is in the top 3 "Weirdest, Most Original Films" I have ever seen.

Chip Gutchel is just a regular dude, living a regular dude life, with regular dude problems. He works at an IT firm that he clearly is not enjoying, though he is good at his job. He goes home to his wife and newborn; it appears to be basically a loveless relationship. At his age, it is time for him to start getting routine prostate exams. Tomorrow is the first of those exams, and he isn't really thrilled to have a doctor have such a "hands-on" relationship with him. What he doesn't know is that when the doctor performs the exam, it "unlocks" something deep inside of him he never knew was there.

Nine years later, Detective Fox shows up to his first Alcoholics Anonymous meeting. He has a problem with drinking, specifically Tom Collins, and he needs help to stop. During his first AA meet-and-greet, he is assigned a sponsor. Someone to help guide him through the addiction process and be there for him when he has bad days. His sponsor is Chip Gutchel. What Det. Fox doesn't realize yet is that his path and Chip's were on a collision course far before either of them started drinking.

Chip is obsessed with putting things... in his butt. It started with the doctor's finger, but escalated quickly from there. Soap, a TV remote, the family dog... whole people, and NOT in a sexual way. (As hard as that is to believe.) His obsession led him to attempt suicide, which led him to drink, which led him to his first of many meetings with Detective Fox. And Detective Fox, well, he is investigating the case of a missing child. His drinking started after his own child went missing. As I said, they were destined to meet before they even realized who the other was.

First things first : This is NOT the movie that a simple title would suggest. I found this one years ago on Amazon and thought the trailer was so incredibly weird I immediately added it to my "watch list." It has taken me at least a decade to see it, and after watching it, this makes me very sad. Trying to recommend this movie to people is NOT easy without a lengthy explanation, but it is worth it. In case it isn't apparent already, Butt Boy is great. And if this review doesn't put me, or my website, on some sort of list, I'll be surprised.

From start to finish, "Butt Boy" is one of the darker comedic movies I have ever seen. The thing about this weird plot and story contrivance is that it is ALL played completely straight to the camera. At no point does the film let on that this is some weird joke or so preposterous that no one in their right mind in the real world would believe this exists... but they do, and it works.

Chip is played by Tyler Cornack, who is also the writer and director. While he does a great job of playing the character, I actually think that Detective Fox, played by Tyler Rice, steals the show. At first, he rubbed me the wrong way because of his overly dark, grizzled, brooding police detective schtick, but in the end, I honestly think he nailed it. The rest of the cast does a commendable job in each part they play, but very clearly the focus and the stars of the film are Chip and Fox.

I think this is maybe the hardest movie I have had to explain to anyone without sounding like a perv. When I told Lucas about it, he (jokingly) had to confirm with me that I had watched it on a "regular streaming site and not P*rnhub." I just watched it last night and have already verbally told several others to check it out, after getting a lot of weird looks. It is VERY dark, and it has some scenes that are pretty disgusting, but overall, this is a movie that I will 100% say should be watched if you can find it. Just maybe don't do a Google search for it without a few more qualifiers.
